NS improves travel information with smart automation
NS wants to inform travellers quickly and reliably, including when there are disruptions. Together with JDriven, the Travel Information department is working on processing that information more intelligently and efficiently, so travellers receive better and more up-to-date travel advice.
The challenge
The Travel Information department at NS makes sure travellers quickly get the right information about trains, stations and disruptions. Developing new functionality and improving processes further called for additional technical expertise. One key challenge was processing disruption information more efficiently and making travel advice more relevant for travellers.
The solution
JDriven consultant Quinton works within the NS team on further developing and optimising the travel information systems. Using Java, Spring Boot and Kubernetes he automated the processes around disruption information and built new functionality. He also introduced multilingual travel information in English, German and French for relevant stations. On top of that he brought in AsciiDoc to document the microservice landscape better and make it easier to share knowledge within the team.
The result
- More efficient and more accurate processing of disruption information
- More relevant travel advice for travellers
- Multilingual travel information at relevant stations
- Better documentation and internal knowledge sharing
